No, thank goodness.

I usually sleep about 7-8 hours per night, including getting up to go to the restroom at least once.

18. Have you ever won a prize for something?

Nothing more than a door prize that I can recall. I won some things in school for academic excellence and won something for a 5k run, but nothing where I bought a ticket or was the 6th caller...

17. RCA Victor released the first 33 1/3 rpm recording (Beethoven's Fifth Symphony performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra) in 1934. Do you own a record player and vinyl albums?

We still have a box of albums, but nothing to play them on. It really is something we should get rid of, since they have not been played in at least 30 years...

16. Peter Falk was born on this day in 1927. Most famous for his role as the detective, Columbo – have you ever seen him play the character?

I have. We watched it when I was a child. It seemed to air with McCloud and McMillan and Wife with the latter being my favorite.

14. What is your favourite filling for a doughnut, or do you prefer them plain?

I am not a huge donut fan. I don't dislike them, but if I am going to have one, I want it fresh from the oil and fairly plain.

15. It’s International Day of the Dot! The children’s book The Dot (by Peter H Reynolds) tells the tale of Vashti, a pupil who thinks she can’t draw until a teacher challenges her to start with a single dot on a page. Have you ever been encouraged to try something new by someone and found you were good at it?

Yes, I went shooting with a friend some years ago and found that I was very accurate (more so than he or K.) I also was encouraged to Power lift and did it a couple of times. It just did not interest me.

13. "Scooby-Doo Where Are You" by Hanna-Barbera debuts in 1969 on CBS in the US. Did you have a favourite character from the show?

I watched it, but was not a huge fan. Scooby was probably my favorite; I know I found Scrappy annoying.

12. Today, in 1792, the court-martial began for instigators of the mutiny on HMS Bounty. There have been several film versions of the story – have you seen any?

8. If your 10-year-old self were transported to your home today, what item would surprise you the most, do you think?

Probably, the refrigeration in my kitchen. I have a large fridge/freezer and also two refrigerator drawers that all "talk" to my phone. Technology in general has come farther than I would have imagined at 10.

7. Do you eat regular meals three times a day? Or do you frequently snack?

I mostly eat regular meals, sometimes augmented by a handful of nuts.

We spent a couple of nights out of town, so I am playing catch up...

4. A spice is a dried seed, fruit, root, bark, or vegetative substance used primarily to flavour, colour, or preserve food. Distinct from herbs (which are the leaves or stems of plants), spices are celebrated for their pungent, aromatic, and sometimes fiery qualities. Do you have a favourite?

I like cumin quite a bit as well as nutmeg and some of the smokey peppers; like urfa.

5. It’s International Bacon Day! What’s your favourite bacon dish (pork, turkey or veggie)?

I like regular pork bacon used as a flavoring in things more than just eating it.

6. Can you think of one (or two!) things that were common in homes when you were growing up, that aren’t around now?

Wired land line telephones, telephone books, and outside clothes lines.

3. Are there any athletic sports (javelin, discus, hurdles, high jump, etc) that you have tried in the past (or still take part in today)?

No. I am short (5'3.5") and have short legs and a more muscular build, so not much of a track and field athlete. I do swim and like that. I am good at it, but not super fast.

2. When you were a teenager, what new technology were you most impressed with? Looking back, has that item been updated or become obsolete?

Probably CDs. I honestly don't remember being impressed by much until the iPhone, but I was no longer a teenager then.

SEPTEMBER:

1. The first US bank robbery took place on this day in 1798. The Bank of Pennsylvania at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was robbed of $162,821. Have you ever had anything stolen?

Not much. We have had two cars broken in to over the years. We do not keep things in our cars, so nothing was stolen, but had to pay to have a smashed window repaired on one and replace a convertible top that was cut on another.

31. In the UK, it’s the Late Summer Bank Holiday. What is the weather forecast, and what are your plans for today?

It is sunny, hot (~90F) and humid today. We are having a bit of a dry spell, but it is still wretchedly humid. I swam first thing and then came home to do a little cooking before a massage. The masseur was sick, so that got canceled and since I have a busy week, I am trying to get ahead on cooking for the week.

29. It’s International Cosplay Day – have you ever taken part in cosplay or seen cosplayers?

Nope, neither.

30. When you were a child, did you own a Slinky? If so, how did you play with it?

I don't think I had one as a child, but I do now. It mostly just sits on a shelf.

28. It’s International Read Comics in Public Day. Launched in 2010, Brian Heater and Sarah Morean also co-created The Daily Cross Hatch, an alternative comics website. They aimed to encourage comic fans to read openly in public spaces. Do you enjoy comic books, or do you read any comic strips daily?

I am not much of a comic book or comic strip person. I did get the first season of the Buffy comic, but did not go beyond that.
