27. It’s World Theatre Day – when was the last time you went to the theatre?

We have a theater subscription, so usually see six shows per year. Our last show was in November. We saw "Book of Mormon." We were supposed to see "Michael" in January, but there was ice, so we did not drive the 90 minutes to the venue. Our next is in April.

26. In 1484 Aesops Fables were first printed in English by William Caxton. Do you recall any of the fables, such as The Tortoise and the Hare?

Yes, that one in particular, especially since we have been talking about it this week on Duolingo French.

25. How often do you wash your hair? Do you style it, or just let it dry naturally?

My hair is short (2-3") and I swim 3 days per week, so I wash my hair on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after swimming. I let it air dry and if I am going out then I will put in some styling product.

24. Harry Houdini was born today in 1874. Are you a fan of magic shows? Have you ever seen someone perform close-up magic?

I sometimes like magic, although I have never seen any (close-up or otherwise) in person.

23. When was the last time you ate some chocolate?

22. Do you still buy physical books, or do you tend to buy e-books these days? Does it depend on the type of book (i.e. fiction or non-fiction)?

I really do not buy books at all anymore (unless it is something I really want to read and the library does not have it. That has happened once in a few years.) We started using the library before COVID and that is how we get physical and ebooks. The format mostly depends on what is available. Ebooks are easier, but sometimes you cannot get them, so physical works. I read 50 books last year, so if I were buying them and then not re-reading (which I usually don't,) that IMO would be costly and wasteful.

20. Was learning a new language part of your education when you were at school? Can you still remember any of it?

I wish. No it was not and things (IMO) would have been easier if I could have learned a second language as a child. I have taken some French at a local college and have been doing Duolingo for many years. I can read it pretty well, but still struggle with hearing it and definitely speaking it.

21. It’s National California Strawberry Day. What is your favourite way to eat strawberries?

Savory wise; a strawberry-spinach salad with black pepper and balsamic vinegar. Sweet wise; homemade strawberry ice cream.

19. If you had the space (and the time), would you like to keep chickens?

Maybe, on two conditions. There are only two of us, so it would be nice to split the duties between our house and the houses on either side of us (both with couples as well.) Also, if I did not have to handle them getting sick (I have heard there are issues with them getting clogged up...)

18. Which flowers or trees are blooming where you live now?

Our daffodils and hyacinths have bloomed. We also have some dwarf forsythia that is pretty and yellow right now and the red bud trees are blooming. No tulips or dogwoods yet.

17. It’s Kurt Russell’s birthday – a child actor who grew up. Have you seen any of the Disney films in which he acted (he played the college student Dexter Riley)?

I have seen some of them, but it has been ages ago...I did not remember that that was his character's name though.

16. How often do you eat out?

It really depends on the month. Usually, not much, only 2 or 3 times a month, but the next couple of weeks kind of a lot. I have 2 lunch dates with friends I have not seen for a while, two coffee dates with friends to catch up and possibly dinner out with some other friends.

31. Do you regularly use your freezer? What do you store in there? Be honest – how often do you check what’s in there…?

15. What’s the weather like today?

Right now (it is 7:30AM,) it is 54F and clear. It is supposed to be windy, but clear all day with a high in the 70's. Then tonight a cold front with rain/snow will move in, so tomorrow will be considerably colder.

14. International ‘Ask Me A Question Day’. Go ahead – ask me a question!

I saw in answer to another question, you plan to do a bathroom and deck(?) renovation. When and what do you plan to do?

Our house was built in 1989. We bought it in 2004 and have systematically redone every room (some have been major, back to the framing, etc.) plus patio, porch, basement, siding, and yard since. We will need to repaint (even without children and animals, rooms need repainting,) but I hope the major stuff is done.

13. It’s International School Meals Day. Did you ever have school meals, and what dish still sticks in your memory if you did?

We did have school meals if you paid for them. Most often I brought my lunch, although every now and then I did get pizza, which I remember being pretty good.

We are having wacky roller coaster weather. On Wednesday, it was 82F, then Thursday morning we had snow. It is supposed to be in the 70's this weekend and then in the teens Monday night...

12. When was the last time you vacuumed the floor?

I vacuumed the bedroom floor yesterday. I am not as diligent as I should be about vacuuming, but I try.

11. How organised are you with household paperwork (or is everything just in one big pile)?

I am fairly organized. K scans all receipts that are not digital and then shreds them, all of our utility bills are digital and everything else has a folder. Although, sometimes it sits in a pile until it get filed in the folder.

10. It’s International Wig Day – have you ever worn a wig or a hairpiece?

Only as part of a Halloween costume. My hair is fine (a change as I have gotten older,) but there is plenty of it.

On another note, I am finally feeling somewhat better. After 2 weeks of the coughing and runny nose, I started taking an antibiotic. Also, finally got a good night's sleep (I hate spring forward time change,) so feel much better today.

8. It’s International Women’s Day – can you name any famous female artists, musicians, scientists or authors?

Georgia O'Keefe, Frida Callo, Mary Cassat, Joan Baez, Dolly Parton, Marie Curie, JK Rowling, Jane Austin, The Bronte's...

9. As it’s ‘Check Your Batteries Day’, when was the last time you checked your stock of batteries? Or, do you just buy them when you need them?

Mostly just buy them when we need them. We have a lot of rechargeable, but some devices do not like them.

7. Do you embrace technology or prefer things the way they used to be (or a bit of both)?

A bit of both. I like that my fridge is connected so that it can tell me if it is off set point and when the filters need to be changed. I don't get why I would need to run my WD with the smart phone though...I love my programmable thermostat, but can find the tech in my car cumbersome...it really just depends.

6. Have you ever seen a dinosaur skeleton?

Yes at a few different natural history museums in the US; though I have not seen one in Europe. We usually stick with art there.
