lizzybuffy200811. Where do your friends and family fit in your life? Do you prefer spending time with either group over the other?
Besides my husband, I am not particularly close to his or my family. My mother is an alcoholic and a pathological liar. I maintain some email contact with her, but realized about 16 years ago that I needed to distance myself for my own mental health. My brother made a lot of bad choices and is trapped in a marriage with too many children. I talk to him every few months, but I cannot save him, so I keep a level of distance there as well. I was pretty close to my mother in-law, but unfortunately she has moderate-advanced dementia, so it is not the relationship that it used to be...
I prefer spending time with the friends, because they understand me better than family and accept me for who I am.
