8 – International Cat Day: Are you a cat person? Have you ever had, or do you have, cats as pets? Do you have a favourite breed of cat?

I like cats, but unfortunately both K and I are very allergic. For me, more than a few minutes in a house with cats will cause throat constriction...It has gotten worse over the years.

Oh no! That’s is not good. I think there is a shot you can get now that can help. A friend had it and it got rid of the allergy so well he now has cats if his own!

I have not looked into that; we both had allergy tests and shots some years ago, but they didn't seem to do much. I have heard that the one for animal allergies is quite effective though.

The mister was allergic as a kid and I'd heard you can grow out of it so I snuck a kitten in when he was at work years ago. Yeah, still allergic like woah! No epipens were needed but there was a lot of apologizing involved.

It is really difficult; my sister in law does not get it at all. Many, many years ago, she took us to a hilly eat (and overnight) with her aunt, who had 6 house cats. K and I sat with a box of kleenex between us at the dinner table and I sounded like Harvey Firestein...luckily she had wood floors and we stayed in a room that cats did not go near. It was a miserable 12 hours.
