27 – Onion Day: True or false: onions improve the taste of pretty much every savoury dish they're in, even if the original recipe doesn't specifically include them. Are onions a staple in your kitchen? Do you have any tricks to avoid tears while chopping?

I do like onions; all kinds. They are a staple. I usually have red and white or yellow, as well as green onions and/or scallions. No, I have no tricks, but I have never tried the ski/dive goggle method.

I thought I was alone in having myriad types of onion on hand all the time. My SIL and niece are allergic to them which I find sad. They add so much flavor to so many dishes!

It makes me sad when it gets to be too hot for the farmer's markets/CSA to have green onions and scallions. We have a friend who came for Thanksgiving one year that would not eat onions...it was very hard coming up with dishes that year. Luckily, he would eat shallots, leeks and garlic.

My SIL and niece are allergic to alliums and that means garlic, all onions and I assume leeks. I have to cook different everything for them when they're over. How the heck do they eat out?
