3 – Take a Cruise Day: Have you ever been on a cruise? If not, would you want to? Cruise ships cause major environmental damage: a large cruise ship can have a carbon footprint greater than 12,000 cars, while passengers on an Antarctic cruise can produce as much CO2 emissions on a seven-day voyage as the average European in an entire year. The industry is a major producer of waste, with the total amount of rubbish produced by a large cruise ship exceeding a ton per day. And let us not forget that they are also essentially floating germ/virus labs (even before Covid). So do you still want to take a cruise?

I have not been on a cruise and have no desire to go on one, partly for the reasons above and partly because I get sea sick, have seen the issues they cause when going into port towns, plus I like to make my own plans for what I see and what I eat on vacation.

Yup - the idea of being in a huge ship with so many people fills me with horror! Plus I had a friend who worked on cruise ships and told me about all the rats and cockroaches on board. No thanks!

Cruises haven't appealed to me for a very long time, mostly because you are stuck with the people you are stuck with and tend to have to be regulated by somebody else's timetable. It's bad enough doing coach tours, which I also avoid these days, but cruises just seem more concentrated somehow. My late mother loved them, though, so perhaps they work better when you have limited mobility?
